FANM – When did you discover the photography? How it was the start?

Pedro – I started to take pictures since my childhood. As many people, my first camera was given to me in my First Communion. I made many pictures with that little camera that could only compose, shoot and make the film reel rolling. Actually, it fascinated me since at first time.

FANM – What you usually hear and read?

Pedro – Almost everything. Hear from fados to opera, rock to pop, from Celtic music to bachata. On reading I am more demanding, but also eclectic. To name some of what I read … Love in the Time of Cholera, The Beak of the Finch, The wonderful life, Veronika Decides to Die, The Decameron, La conquista del Cervino…

FANM – What was the most difficult situation to photograph?

Pedro – I really would not know to say it … Maybe it’s those times when you’re feeling things with the camera are not working as you want and you don’t know why…

FANM – The photographer is what he sees and feels? How do you defines yourself?

Pedro – Photographer is a human being. We are no more different from other people who between ourselves. Each photographer is so different, and sees and feels things so differently, as it can be anyone else. Perhaps, when you take some time taking pictures, look at what catches your attention with a “eye in the brain” and not with one eye.

FANM – It is possible to train the eye to become a good photographer?

Pedro – I guess so, at least when you realize you can get a better match to what you see. But the base has to be who you are, not what you learn (learning is essential). I mean, without something that moves you, or call to attract attention, you can’t build a learning.

FANM – What is the threshold between a purely technical picture and a work of photographic art?

Pedro – I have no idea what is art and what is not (laughing). I just do what I like and I recognize what I like to when others do. There are pictures that triggers me a switch in the brain when I see them and others do not, regardless of the technique.
